The Knux – “She’s So Up”

The Knux Shes So Up The Knux Shes So Up

Since their 2008 debut album Remind Me In 3 Days…, The Knux have slowly gained popularity for their unique electronic/rock-inspired sound. The brothers are at it again, currently working on a new album and an even further-evolved sound. They’ve released a new track titled “She’s So Up” which gives us a taste of the new feel, something they describe as if “The Stones mingled with The Clash, ZZ Top met Joy Division, and The Smiths chopped it up with PM Dawn.” Whatever that means, it’s good. Give it a listen below and head over to TheKnux.com for a free download.

idsgn: Design = Music

designmusic idsgn: Design = Music

Design blog idsgn.org has an interesting piece up examining the relationship between the worlds of music and design. They do so through referencing the likes of Justice, Kanye West, and the Gorillaz, who have all crossed between the two fields in one way or another. Regarding Kanye West, they write:

West was a former student at the American Academy of Art in Chicago. There, he studied art and design before hitting it big and inking a deal with Jay-Z’s Roc-A-Fella Records.

Design and art clearly made an enormous impact on West. When Rolling Stone asked in 2006 how he would describe himself, he replied: “a designer.”

The article has some good information that might surprise you about the artists (Kanye also interned for Fendi this summer), and gives a solid look at how the two industries mesh and relate to each other. Give the full thing a read over at idsgn blog.

Cold War Kids – Live At Third Man Studios

Last month, Freshborn favorite The Cold War Kids stopped by Jack White’s Nashville record store/production house/performance venue Third Man Records for a live performance. Not content with just a sold out show, they took the time to cut a live record with a direct-to-analog recording to be later released on Third Man Records’ Vinyl. While we wait for that, they’ve uploaded a performance of “Skip The Charades,” a track from their upcoming album Mine Is Yours. Check out the performance above, then head over to Amazon to pre-order Mine Is Yours.

Also: Be sure to give a listen to the first single from their new album: “Louder Than Ever” (iTunes link)

Raphael Saadiq “Radio” Music Video

Check out the video for Raphael Saadiq‘s track Radio from his upcoming album Stone Rollin’. The video, along with the song, blends old school soul and modern elements together (a la Mayor Hawthorne) to create an entirely new– yet familiar sound. A motown revival? Maybe not entirely, though we can’t wait to hear more of this. You can find Saadiq on twitter at @rayraysaadiq.
